Online VJ software: live visuals without an installation

A browser can now be the control room for a DJ visual show. You can mix loops, react to music, automate scene changes and send a clean full-screen image to a projector—without installing a traditional desktop VJ package.

What is browser-based VJ software?

VJ software combines video clips, transitions and effects in real time for clubs, concerts, parties, installations and streamed performances. A browser-based system moves the control interface into Chrome or Edge. The operator controls the show in one window, while a separate projector window displays only the finished visual output.

This approach is useful when you want a fast setup, work on different computers, or do not want a large creative suite installed permanently. It is still a live instrument: you can cut between clips, crossfade A/B decks, trigger hot scenes, adjust speed and loops, or let an Autopilot handle routine changes while you keep manual override.

How to put DJ visuals on a projector

STEP 1

Choose or build a show

Start with ready-made visual packs or add your own local MP4/WebM loops. Arrange the playlist and set IN/OUT points.

STEP 2

Select the audio source

Capture the music-playing browser tab/system audio in Chrome or Edge, use a microphone, or run without audio.

STEP 3

Open projector output

Move the clean output to the projector, TV or LED-wall processor and switch that browser window to full screen.

For a reliable event, connect the display before guests arrive, disable sleep mode, test blackout and scene controls, and prepare cloud media for offline playback where possible. A wired network is preferable when controller and projector run on separate machines.

Music-reactive visuals without giving up control

Audio-reactive visuals do not have to mean random flashing. A useful system separates audio analysis from show decisions. BPM, peaks and energy can drive scene timing, movement or selected effects, while the VJ can still take over instantly. For calmer music, use longer fades and fewer cuts. For harder sets, increase scene frequency and effect intensity—but keep strobe disabled unless it is deliberately required and safe for the audience.

MONAS Studio supports both approaches. Simple Start loads a prepared show and Autopilot profile. Advanced Use exposes A/B decks, crossfader, clip ranges, playback speed, Live FX, Master FX, macros, Hot Scenes and detailed Autopilot settings.

Which video files work best for live projection?

Short, seamless loops in MP4 or WebM are the easiest to manage. For most laptops and projectors, 1080p at 30 fps is a practical upper target; 720p can be safer on older hardware or when several heavy effects run together. Match the aspect ratio to the output when possible, keep a local copy of critical media, and test the exact browser and GPU before the event.

Local Media in MONAS stays on the operator’s computer instead of being uploaded. Built-in visual packs provide an immediate starting point, and compatible public-domain archive material can add a distinct look without forcing every show to begin from scratch.

Common questions

Can I use VJ software without installing anything?

Yes. A browser-based controller and projector output can run directly from a secure website. Chrome or Edge is recommended when you need browser or system-audio capture.

Can a DJ run visuals without a separate VJ?

Yes. Prepared shows and Autopilot can handle scene changes and effects, while essential controls such as next scene and blackout remain available.

Can I use my own videos?

Yes. MONAS supports local media without upload, private cloud media, direct compatible web media and built-in visual packs.

Does the projector show the controls?

No. The controller and projector are separate views; the audience sees the clean output with the enabled visuals and effects.

Can I test it for free?

Yes. Practice mode lets you build and run the full workflow with a watermark on the projector output.
